A Sister for my Brother
By Dayna Quan
First Place, Primary Category
I have a little brother
Who is naughty and a bore
My mother always yells at him
Cuz he is only four.
He cries all morning, wakes me up
I never sleep a wink.
I wish my mom and dad
Would toss him in the sink.
So now I want a sister
Who will not yell and scream.
We’ll paint our nails, wear silly clothes
And try out fancy creams.
We’ll play grounders in the park
Watch tv all night long.
Dance and prance around the house
Singing Sabrina Carpenter songs.
I’ll ask my mom to bring a girl
A sister for a friend.
I’ll call her Caris, it’ll be so fun
I’ll love her til the end.
Three Changes
By Sissy Tao
Second Place, Primary Category
Right now, I’m too slow.
I run pretty fast, but
I want to go faster,
Because sometimes in a race
I run too slow and I lose.
And I DON’T like to lose.
Right now, I have too few toys.
I have some money, but
I want more. And MORE!
Because I always want
To buy a new toy, and can’t.
And I DON’T like when I can’t.
Right now, I’m too little.
My sister pats me on the head
And says, “Hi, little one.”
I want to be the tallest of all,
Because she is taller than me
And I DON’T like that.
The World Wakes
By Eric Lyu
Third Place, Primary Category
The sun comes up
Everyone wakes
Endless light spills
Across the world
Birds sing good morning
Everyone comes to
A fresh start
The world becomes
clear.
Changing Schools
By Yanzhuo Li
Honourable Mention, Primary Category
Legacy Leaders was my old school,
But now I go to Mulgrave.
I am getting much smarter
From the Mulgrave brain waves!
I have got some new teachers
And made some new friends.
We have two math classes
Where we learn to count by tens.
A gymnasium that fits two classes
My new school has things that
My old school did not, like
Where you could ride a bike!
I like my new school better,
Because even the lunches are yummy,
And they’re teaching me lots of things,
So I’ll be as smart as my mummy.
The Leaves at my School
By Madison Yeung
Honourable Mention, Primary Category
After I get dropped off at school
I walk fast to my class
But sometimes I stop and look at the leaves
I see brown trees as big as mountains
With branches as strong as my mom
Holding up houses for squirrels
I see smooth pine needles all over the ground
Slowly getting covered
By the brown leaves gliding down
